1. Discovered in 1878, Ytterbium is named after Ytterby, Sweden 
2. Found mainly in a mineral called monazite, ytterbium is a soft, silvery metal that has no known biological role
3. It's being increasingly used to replace other industrial catalysts that are deemed too toxic and polluting
